Animoca Brands’ Web3 gaming project Anichess raises $1.8 million, led by Sfermion and Amber Group
PANews reported on April 25 that Anichess, a chess-centric subsidiary of Animoca Brands, announced that it had completed a $1.8 million financing round. This round of financing was led by Sfermion and Amber Group, and Fenbushi Capital, Aspen Digital and SNZ Capital also participated in the investment. Anichess will use the funds for game development, marketing activities and team expansion. The Web3 game project Anichess was developed by Animoca Brands in cooperation with the online chess platform Chess.com. The game adds new strategies and gameplay to the classic chess game by introducing spells, requiring players to rethink the rules of traditional chess and gain new experiences in exploring the rich legends of the game world. Since completing an oversubscribed $1.5 million seed round of financing in 2023, Anichess has been working hard to develop experiences that make chess more attractive and accessible. In January 2024, Anichess launched daily chess puzzles for players in a player-versus-environment (PvE) environment and quickly accumulated more than 1 million registered players, with 150,000 daily active users solving more than 50 million puzzles. Anichess's first season leaderboard was launched on March 11, 2024, and players are ranked based on points for solving daily puzzles and orbs of power earned through games and participating in social activities. Anichess expects to launch an online player-versus-player (PvP) game mode in the second quarter of 2024.
